On July 12 of the current year, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, inaugurated the reconstruction project of the Salang highway. The ceremony was attended by Mullah Mohammad Essa Thani, the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Public Works, provincial officials from Parwan and Baghlan, and representatives from the private sector. During his speech at the opening ceremony, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund emphasized the significance of the project, stating that it is the second-largest national and economic undertaking after the Qosh Tepa Canal project. Upon completion, the reconstructed highway will facilitate smooth travel from the north to the south of the country, greatly benefiting the lives of the people and businesses. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's commitment to fully support and collaborate with the contracting companies to ensure the successful completion of this vital national project. Spanning 80 kilometers, the reconstruction project is expected to be accomplished within two years generating employment opportunities for thousands of individuals. The Salang highway serves as a crucial link connecting 9 northern provinces of Afghanistan and 4 major commercial ports to the capital city of Kabul. It accommodates a substantial number of passenger and cargo vehicles on a daily basis. Travelers and motorists are delighted with the commencement of this project, as it promises to address their challenges along the way. Representatives from the private sector emphasized the positive impact of the highway reconstruction on Afghanistan's trade and transit, particularly in facilitating commerce between Central Asia and South Asia through Afghanistan.
