Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Meets with the President of Iran
The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met today Friday, July 3, 2026, with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the meeting, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund extended condolences to the Government and people of Iran, as well as on the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Deputy PM highlighted the many areas of commonality between Afghanistan and Iran, noting that the two neighboring countries share significant mutual interests across various sectors.
He further stated that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan had maintained a clear and consistent position regarding the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, describing those attacks as illegitimate and condemning them.
President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the close and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries, adding that Afghanistan and Iran should make full use of all existing opportunities for the benefit of their nations.
President Pezeshkian described the expansion of relations with Afghanistan as a special priority for his government and stressed that both governments should make effective use of all available capacities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
