High Council for Standards Approves 57 Standards and Testing Procedures in the Fuel Sector

The fourth extraordinary meeting of the High Council for Standards, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, was held today, June 21, 2025, at the Marmarin Palace.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund, stated that this extraordinary meeting was convened based on the directive of the Esteemed Amir al-Mu’minin, who instructed:

“The National Standards Authority and the Committee for Preventing Low-Quality Fuel shall jointly develop a new standard for imported fuel within ten working days and submit it to us.”

He further emphasized that, in order to ensure economic stability and protect the health of the general public, the Islamic Emirate has taken a series of important and effective measures to control low-quality imports. These efforts not only enhance the quality of the domestic market but also strengthen consumer trust.

Referring to the importance of standards and quality, the Deputy PM stated that standards and quality are fundamental values for achieving economic stability and a self-reliant Afghanistan. Standardization ensures the quality of industry, trade, agriculture, and production, and is also a vital requirement for increasing exports, safeguarding consumer rights, and accessing international markets.

According to him, through the High Council for Standards, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan aims to establish coordinated, transparent, and credible policies and systems in the area of national standards, ensuring all sectors benefit from them.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund also instructed the Standards Implementation Committee to effectively enforce the standards and testing procedures approved by the High Council for Standards. In addition, the private sector was urged to strictly adhere to these standards in both production and imports and to share their compliance reports with the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Office.

In today’s extraordinary meeting, the High Council for Standards approved 57 standards and testing procedures related to fuel products.
