Approval of the National Policy for the Development of the Agriculture and Livestock Sector and the Development Plan for the Fisheries Sector
The regular meeting of the Economic Commission, chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, was held today, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Marmarin Palace. At the meeting, the National Policy for the Development of the Agriculture and Livestock Sector was presented and, after discussion, approved. The key objectives of this policy include the mechanization of the agriculture and livestock sector; the development of agricultural, irrigation, and livestock research systems; the management of irrigation systems; support for investment in the fields of agriculture, irrigation, and livestock; and ensuring public access to high-quality agricultural and animal products.
In addition, the meeting discussed and approved the Development Plan for the Fisheries Sector. According to this plan, through private sector investment, 7,700 small, medium, and large fish production and farming facilities will be established on 6,500 hectares of land across various regions of the country. With the implementation of this plan, employment opportunities will be created for 50,000 people directly and 250,000 people indirectly.
At the conclusion of the meeting, reports on several follow-up matters were also presented, and necessary instructions were issued to the relevant institutions.
The aforementioned decisions were forwarded to the Office of His Excellency the Amir al-Mu’minin, Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada (may Allah protect him), for final approval.
