Discussion Held on Granting Residency Permits to Foreign Investors in Afghanistan in Return for Investment
A regular meeting of the Economic Commission, chaired by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, was held today, Saturday, January 7, 2026, at the Marmarin Palace.
During the meeting, the issue of granting Afghanistan residency permits ranging from one to ten years to foreign investors in return for investment in Afghanistan was presented for discussion. Following deliberations, the proposal was approved, and the assigned committee was tasked with categorizing the duration of residency based on the level of investment. The committee was instructed to consider all aspects of the matter and submit its report to the next session of the Economic Commission.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of the commencement and termination of the TIR operation at the country’s customs points. A committee was appointed to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the matter and present its report to the Economic Commission within the specified timeframe.
Additionally, at the conclusion of the meeting, the designated committees presented their evaluation reports concerning the Lala and Sadaf townships. In light of these reports, the relevant authorities were instructed to further comprehensively review the issues related to the said townships and share their findings with the Economic Commission.
