Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, participated in a ceremony recognizing pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The ceremony was held today, May 20, 2025, at the Ministry of Public Health.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund stated that high-quality medicines are essential to ensuring a healthy human society, while poor-quality drugs can pose serious risks to public health. He emphasized that it is the fundamental responsibility of all stakeholders involved in this sector to carry out their duties with full sincerity, commitment, and integrity. He added that if pharmaceutical factories in the country produce medicines in accordance with national and international standards, it would not only be a major achievement but also reduce Afghanistan’s reliance on imported drugs and meet the domestic demand internally.

The Deputy PM further noted that only three pharmaceutical factories are currently receiving GMP certificates for their quality and standard production. He called this a major accomplishment for the responsible leaders of these factories and extended his congratulations to them.

The Deputy PM also highlighted that Afghanistan's dependence on imported medicines is detrimental to the national economy. He noted that such medicines are not only costly but also result in a significant outflow of foreign currency from the country. In light of this pressing issue, he urged domestic pharmaceutical companies to pay close attention to both the quality and quantity of medicines in accordance with national and international standards.

The Deputy PM assured all domestic and international investors that economic-related processes within the Islamic Emirate’s institutions would be further simplified, streamlined, expedited, and shortened. He stated that, in this regard, His Excellency the Amir al-Mu’minin has tasked a committee led by the Directorate of Administrative Affairs to draft a comprehensive procedural framework. He encouraged all investors to consider investing in the health sector alongside other industries.

In conclusion, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund called on all governmental institutions to act in accordance with the directive of His Excellency the Amir al-Mu’minin by utilizing domestically produced goods, prioritizing standard local medical products, and paying serious attention to this matter in all procurement processes.

It is noteworthy that today, Snow Pharma, Milli Shifa, and TGL pharmaceutical production companies were awarded internationally recognized GMP certificates for their standardized drug manufacturing. These certificates allow them to export their products to foreign countries.
