Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund Returns to Kabul After a Four-Day Official Visit to Tatarstan

Following a four-day official visit to the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, returned to Kabul at 10:00 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

The purpose of the visit was to attend the 16th Kazan International Economic Forum. Speaking to the media at Kabul International Airport, Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund stated that during the trip, he held productive discussions on political, economic, and trade-related matters with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan and the President of the Republic of Mordovia.

He further added that he also held comprehensive talks with two Deputy PMs of the Russian Federation regarding the enhancement of bilateral trade between Kabul and Moscow, Russian investment in Afghanistan, and the establishment of joint cooperation in various economic sectors between the two countries. He highlighted that during the visit, the Afghanistan–Russia Business Forum was also inaugurated. In the course of the forum, five key memorandums of understanding were signed between Afghanistan and Russia focusing on transportation and transit, bilateral trade, and joint cooperation between the private sectors of both nations.

The Deputy PM further described the visit as highly fruitful and full of achievements.

It is worth noting that the 16th Kazan International Economic Forum was attended by senior officials from around 90 countries and representatives from 20,000 companies from various nations
