On September 17, 2025, the technical team of the Office of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs conducted an on-site inspection of the road construction works extending from Qambar Square to Khairkhana Kotal.

The technical team praised the Kabul Municipality for the progress achieved on the project and described it as an important initiative for regulating urban transport and promoting urban development.

Officials from Kabul Municipality assured the technical team that the remaining works of the project will be completed and delivered for public use in the near future. They explained that, according to the contract, the project was allocated a duration of one year and eight months, and four months still remain within the contractual period. They emphasized that all remaining works will be finalized and the project will be handed over for use within the next four months, in line with the approved plan.

The road from Qambar Square to Khairkhana Kotal is 7.6 kilometers long and 30 meters wide. At present, 95 percent of the construction works have been completed. The project includes two main carriageways for traffic, pedestrian sidewalks on both sides, drainage systems, green medians, traffic signs, and all standard components of a modern road.

The construction of this road has significantly reduced traffic congestion in the northern part of Kabul city, created substantial facilities for cargo and passenger vehicles traveling from northern provinces, and contributed to a notable decrease in traffic accidents.

The total cost of the project amounts to 450 million Afghanis, financed from the Kabul Municipality’s budget.

It is worth mentioning that the construction works of this road were officially inaugurated on April 28, 2024, by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
